Christina Cultural Arts Center
has been a major community based cultural organization
in Wilmington, Delaware since 1945. Founded by the Women’s
Club of Trinity Episcopal Church, CCAC was originally incorporated
as a recreational community center to provide activities
for immigrant Polish and Swedish working-class families.
Christina became a United Way of Delaware agency in 1948.
With a change in neighborhood demographics during the 1950’s
and 1960’s, it became necessary to re-visit CCAC’s
mission in order to best serve the many African American
families moving into the community. In 1969, the mission
was re-aligned to serve as a cultural arts center with
an emphasis on preserving African American heritage.
