IYABO – taken from the Yoruba language spoken in Nigeria, the word Iyabo means “the parent has returned.” It is an arts-based program targeting adolescent parents, single parents, and their children. This structured arts program is fused with parenting education. The goal is to use the arts to teach child development, assist in the transmission of values, instill cultural traditions and to increase access to arts education for both children and their parents.
Iyabo offers professional intervention for individuals, families and groups in need of therapeutic support. Resolution of conflicts, child/parent problems, coping with adolescence, self esteem and anger management are a few of the issues that can be explored. Sessions are handled in a confidential, respectful and sensitive manner.
Iyabo provides parents and families with workshops, seminars, and information to keep parents abreast of trends and issues impacting the homefront.
